Some time ago I was given a iBook G4 to repair and discovered that the
motherboard was completely dead on it. As often happens with these
sort of things the owner simply wished to have the data from it and
just gave me the dead computer. I have had it laying around for ages
and I have been out of the country for some time as well.
Here is my question I am looking for a computer for school that will
be fine for taking notes etc in class I have some money saved up and
I'm leaning towards buying a much more powerful desktop and just using
anything I can get my hands on for portability. So my eyes have landed
on this used ibook.
Everything is working on it minus the motherboard.
I will need to purchase a new HD for it although I do have a 20GB I
could put in possibly if that is enough space.
I believe the battery holds a decent charge for a few hours.
The ram is already maxed and it has a wifi card.
The laptop is a 1GHz G4.

Do these laptops have cronic problems?
Is it worth it to fix this? Given I have nothing invested at this
point.
If I buy a new motherboard can I upgrade it from 1Ghz to 1.33Ghz?
Basically will the motherboards be the same shape or does it have to
be the same one?

I have plenty of experience repairing Apple computers especially
laptops so my main concern is if you think it is worth it to repair
given the age of the laptop and if there are any known issues. And if
I can use just any iBook G4 motherboard or if I am limited to the
1.0Ghz G4 board.

Hopefully my question is clear I have the feeling that I rambled a bit
to much so I apologize for that. Thanks in advance for any thoughts on
this matter.
