Kristina, You can usually bet money on Bruce's advice, but just in case don't do anything rash. You could:
a) Contact Adobe. You paid good money for it after all. b) Run a utility like Onyx (free) or Disk Warrior (paid, but well worth the money) to make sure everything is all right. Make sure the version is appropriate to your OS. c) All of the above. If the strange files are still there and still unexplained after all that, and everything works as it should, then ignore them. They could be just one of those things. If you still HAVE to get rid of them, d) Do a back up (preferably by cloning the HDD), and then trash them and see what happens. Good luck, Felix On Nov 8, 8:18 pm, Kristina Rost <[email protected]> wrote: > well...i used the tiger install disc to start up and run disk utility... > it didn't get rid of the strange preferences. > can I just trash them? > > Kristina > > On Sun, Nov 8, 2009 at 12:32 PM, Bruce Johnson > > <[email protected]> wrote: > > > On Nov 8, 2009, at 10:06 AM, Kristina Rost wrote: > > >> Hi, > > >> I was resetting my CS2 illustrator preferences per the Classroom in a > >> Book instructions. > > >> Opening my preference file folder revealed preferences with names like > >> §P > >> ‰H > >> †‰H > >> etc. tons of them. all of them empty...I didn't examine every single > >> one. > >> What are they, where did they come from and can I clean them out. > >> Are they mac dustbunnies? > > > Run Disk Utility and check your disk right now. filenames with random > > weird characters are usually a sign of disk problems.
