The Pismo's resolution is 1024 x 768, so the largest HD screen I could display with correct proportions would be 1024 x 576, which I think would be pretty decent size if it actually looks OK. Right now, I'm using a plain old 27" CRT TV, and there are plenty of non-HD channels to watch.
I was leaning toward firewire more or less for the reasons you mentioned, but I need product recommendations. It's easier to find USB tuners, and USB 2 adapters are cheap. >From what I'm reading, I won't have enough CPU power for HD, but how large a screen can the the Pismo display comfortably when being used more or less as a dedicated TV? And is there enough in reserve to record to a hard drive?
