When I connect my iBook G3 (firewire-Indigo)
Memory? HD size & free space? OS? Fully updated?
to a firewire device such as my LaCie external drive or when I
attempt to transfer files in
Target Disc Mode, the device isn't mounted on the desktop or
recognized. I've tried two different firewire cables that I know
work. The firewire firmware is up to date on both the iBook and my
G5 iMac. Apple Hardware Test results say that there are no problems.
When I have the iBook connected to a firewire device, the system
profiler doesn't find the devices.
Is my firewire port faulty
Could be.
Does System Profiler list the firewire bus itself when nothing is plugged in?
Check the system log for error messages:
Launch Console.app.
Tell it to view system.log
Plug in a firewire device.
Watch what goes into sysetm.log.
If no messages get thrown, then the port is probably blown.
