Well, hooked it up in target mode to another PB, no joy but for a second. Figured the HD must be fried. Some 7 hours later, have the whole thing back together. Total PITA to take apart and put back together. Ah well, while I screwed around with screws, I set a new drive in a firewire box and cloned a new set up off another machine I just set up for a friend. Right as I was done screwing it open, the drive was ready. Another few hours putting humpty back together again and voila...
Still need to replace a key on my 17" 1.67 back lit...any ideas?
