Hi All
One of my Wally's spec list on the bottom of the machine says
14.1TFT/ = Diagonal size of display
233MHz-512K/ = Processor speed and size of cache
32MB/ = amount of RAM as sold
2GB HD/ = size of hard drive as sold
4MB video/ = amount of video RAM
CD/ = type of optical drive
Modem = it has a modem
I'm wondering what the video spec means. = As it says, the amount
of video RAM
Also I have a spare motherboard in my hand and I want to know how
to tell the bus speed on one.
There are two different bus speeds on main logic boards. The later
models were all 66MHz. I can't find a reference for the speed of
the earlier ones, but it seems that it was some odd number like
72MHz. The key is that processors compatible with one type ARE NOT
comptatible with the other type. You must use ID Codes to determine
compatibility.
There are six different processor boards:
Microprocessor Board
Description Service Part # ID Code
233 MHz/0 cache 661-2035 BKF
233 MHz/512K cache 661-2089 DW3, ERN
250 MHz/1 M cache 661-2036 BKE
266 MHz/1 M cache 661-2097 EE8
292 MHz/1 M cache 661-2021 BAD
300 MHz/1 M cache 661-2088 DW4
Logic board identification:
Quoted from a repair manual:
The ID codes listed below can be found within the serial
numbers that are attached to the circuit boards. They are
not part of the whole unit serial number that is attached to
the bottom of the PowerBook.
• I/O Logic Board: This serial number label is viewable
from the opening for the PC Card slots. You don’t need to
disassemble the PowerBook. Gently push in the PC Card
slot doors and look inside the opening. You should see the
serial number/bar code label. You may need to use a
small flashlight to see the lettering on the label.
The ID codes are printed in one of two ways:
– Either the next-to-last three characters in the serial
number. For example, if the serial number is
*CK8xxxxxyyyx* then the ID code would be “yyy”.
– Or within the last 5 characters of the serial number.
For example, if the serial number is
*KC8xxxxxxyyyxx* then the ID code would be “yyy”.
This type of serial number label has Singapore printed
directly after the serial number.

Microprocessor and I/O Logic Board Compatibility
I/O logic boards and microprocessor boards shipped in early
PowerBook G3
Series computers are not compatible with those shipped later and
should not
be used together. Refer to the chart below to check compatibility when
replacing these parts.

Hope this helps more than it confuses!
This does make some sense because I got a 300 Mother board and
processor that I put in one of my Wally 233s, and I have another
Wally that is a 233 also but it has a 13" display so I put the 233
daughter card in it that I took out of the 14" machine and it does
some strange stuff like funny video/display problems. So this tells
me that to upgrade the 13" I need to install the extra PDQ mother
board I have and then I can get another 300 daughter card for it.?
The only # I can find on my extra processor card is 233 630-2793

The serial # on the logic board I have extra
is QY9030H2DW701 4MPDQ SUV
The serial # on my 13" Wally is CK82701QCWH Logic# is

The serial # on my 14.1" Wally is QT90516UE6A Logic# is
