Hi I use GeekBench to benchmark all my machines and have done for a few years. It gives a nice cross platform comparison.
I have two machines sitting in front of me and I am a little confused at the results. An iBook G3 500Mhz with 640MB RAM and an IBM ThinkPad 240x P3 500Mhz with 192MB RAM. Both machines have the same L1 and L2 cache. The iBook has 66mhz FSB, ThinkPad has 100mhz FSB. The iBook benches at 234 and the ThinkPad benches at 289. What gives. This is a big improvement when you are talking of machines of this age. Is the iBook really that poor that even with 3 times the RAM, the ThinkPad still trounces it. Does having a 100mhz FSB vs 66mhz one make such a massive difference? Is the Pentium 3 processor better than the G3 one? Would we see a massive difference between a 500Mhz PowerBook G3 'Pismo' vs 500Mhz iBook G3, both with same amount of RAM? The Pismo too has 100Mhz FSB vs the iBook 66Mhz FSB and both would be running the same OS. -- You received this message because you are a member of G-Books, a group for those using G3 iBooks and PowerBooks (we run a separate list for G4 'Books).
