Hello-
I've got twin G3 iBooks with OSX 10.4.11; one has the infamous cracked
motherboard, which I have done a temporary repair on (it's lasted a whole
year!); the other one is crack-free.
I have downloaded Skype version 1.5.0.8.0 (an old version, from OldApps.com).It
is sort of terrible, and the volume is way low. I'm hoping to upgrade to a
newer version,ANY newer version. But I can't.
The reason is that every single newer version since then--- will download but
not mounton the iBooks. Not at all. So, I dump them in the trash and go back to
the earlier version.(I've got a vid cam also, and Skype boasts capability with
that, but all I want is to hearand speak without sounding like i am underwater.
Once, this was possible. Lately, no.)
I emailed Skype, and they replied with a biolerplate letter, and a link to
their site, showing me all the newest versions, basically not what I asked
them in the first place: "Dear Skype: Can I get anything more current than
1.5.0.8.0? on my osx 10.4.11?"
So, has anyone else had issues with 10.4.11 and newer Skype versions ?
They did suggest I wipe it and re-install, and I guessed that possibly having
older versions in my HD prevent loading and mounting a newer version.. but I
am just guessing)
Some online forums suggest people are downgrading to older versions on eMac and
iMac, because the "newer" (1 or 2 year old) versions don't download or open at
all.
I've stopped using Skype for banking and business; the connection sounds like i
am speaking through a rubber band, and drops or repeats (echos) your words. I
can live with that now and then, but it used to be good, and now it's in total
decay.
Anyway, a mild curiosity. I did go into my Library and deleted some skype junk
that they suggested. No improvement.
I'd just like to get a slightly newer version than 1.5.0 for the iBook w/ osx
10.4.11; the version I had to settle on seems antiquated. (however, my Pismo
w/10.39 won't load or mount ANY skype, sound and micok, it just won't. It's in
good shape otherwise. Doesn't matter; it's just for backup.)
So what gives?
(oh, and I pay for a 1.5 mbps cable internet connection, which rarely exceeds
0.9 in speed)Maybe that's the prob?
Ciao-steve
