I have a white G3 iBook (800 processor, PowerPC, cracked but repaired
motherboard)and an identical one in parts. Both have OSX 10.4.11, and this is
the one I depend on the most. I couldn't find "Grab" the other night, and
began to Repair Disk Permissions (Grab used to be on this unit but I never used
it).Disk Utilities is gone. So is iDisk. They belong on the Apps list, or on
the list "home"where Apps and Libraries is. I have Utilities listing.. it only
shows one folder (Java).
I spent all night searching the computer for Disk Utilities or even jusst
Utilities, so I can "verify" and "repair disk permissions." I find only a Disk
Utilities log, in a general HD search.Wont open (no proper application
available)
Short of re0-installig Tiger, which means using a dvd I don't have, on an iBook
which reads only cd's.. and the thing works typically fine all the time
anyway.. can/should I ignore this utility, or keep trying to find where it is
buried? (the help section says it is either disabled or not installed)
I verified and repaired disk permissions last month, no problem, in order to
remind the laptop that it knows of my TDK external cd burner (it had refused to
recognize it.. even though iTunes remembered it, and I burned CD's all night..)
Otherwise, scheduled Disk Permissions Repair, and tonight there is no sich
application.
Safe Mode? A more thorough search?(the Disk Utility logs wouldn't open, as the
scriipt editor or something was not correct)("Help" sends me to Disk Utility,
which says it has been disabled.
How often do programs disappear on these laptops?
30 gig HD, 18 gig used, mostly inteneret
no iPhoto but power point and Word and Exel (never used).
Can I dig deep enough and find my DIsk Utility? I went into (I think) the disk
utility log, and clicked (to the left) get info.. and opeed up everythig to
'read and write' including all isers, etc.. haven't re-started the computer
yet, but i will now.
(so where does a program go when it disappears, and all the regular searches do
not turn it up?)
(i'm focusing on it having gotten misfiled; however a search would reveal this,
no?
it's like driving on 4 good tires, but no spare. I'd love to know how to find
this basicprogram.
g3800 processorwhite iBook640 RAM OSX 10.4.11Internet only, no iPhoto or
filesminimal additional programs (haven't checked for SPYWARE yet..))30 gig HD,
with 18 gigs freeno other evident malfunction (even the iTunes does not stutter
or skip)
Tonights Java and Safari updates failed 2 times, but this happens all the time
withthe 0.9 connection (cable modem) which we have, however, we pay for 1.5)
well, anyone with more ideas than me.... chime in...?
