well, that went haywire too :-(

after an hour or so nothing had happened. trying to cancel had no effect
and the receiving mac (white 17" imac g5) went numb or something, wouldn't
even shut down or reboot or anything. the little powerbook was burning
hot, so I gave up

today I decided to give it a final shot. still no luck with the imac and
the powerbook seemed to have given up, giving me the flashing ? but
then...

thought the absolutely final shot would be to try to boot from the tiger
disk to see if I could get to it via the network from the old beige, and
then I got this wicked idea...

there's a pci firewire card in my old beige...

having no idea if it would be possible, I hooked it up and booted with the
T down and... YEEEEESSSSSSS!

there it was on the desktop - a lot of gibberish files and folders shows
up, but my user, downloads and bookmarks folders are there and now it's
happily copying files to the external firewire disk hooked up to the beige

never give up, and never ver discard your trusty old beige :-)

thanks again
