I hope this is the right list. I have a TiBook 867 running Tiger and using Firefox browser. A couple of times recently the machine has frozen, the screen greyed, and a notice that I need to re-start my computer appears. It is a black box with English, French, German, and (I think) Japanese notification. I suspect this is a FireFox deal, but am curios to know for sure. The notice does not look like an Apple notice.
This is a kernel panic. It's probably not related to Firefox. You can open Console and find the panic log in the log files. The last few things in the panic log can possibly give you a clue to what the problem is.
Solutions are based upon what the cause is. A 'shotgun' type solution would be to reinstall the 10.4.11 PPC Combo Update and hope that repairs whatever was causing the panic. Otherwise you'll need to look in the log and try to find a solution specific to the actual cause.
You also might want to restart at least once holding the Shift key to initiate a Safe Boot that will trash the System cache files and rebuild them. Sometimes a cache parameter can cause a panic.
