Hello Stro, It depends, what model is your friends powerbook? I know from personal experience that a Alu 15" will take anothers logic board as long as they are from that exact (or compatible) generation, for example, my powerbook alu 15" 1.33GHz (powerbook 5,4) was a bluetooth 1 model and there for I was able to just drop in a early 1.5GHz logic board (bt1 powerbook 5,4) but I would not have been able to put in a bluetooth 2 1.5GHz or 1.6GHz logic board (sadly as they are powerbook 5,6).
I'd love to recommend the ultimate upgrate to a powerbook from daystar, but I hear that it has issues, namely over heating but, if your feel really power hungry, it's something to look in as a 1.92GHz G4 is something not to be sniffed at! The best way to check of a board is compatible, I've found is to look at it's model ID on everymac, if they match, then they work. If it's not a Alu book but a earlier Ti powerbook, then unless you can get one of the upgraded board (I think daystar did a service to repair and upgrade the Ti powerbook, like they did/do with the Alu books), your options max out at 1GHz, sorry!
