Yah... I was thinkin G3 were limited to tiger, and some even to panther. But you can overcome that with xpostfacto...
Any Mac with a G3 CPU can run 10.4.11 with XPostFacto 4. Several G3's including the colored iMacs & iBooks without Firewire can run 10.4.11 without XPostFacto, but have an artificial installer block that would need to be circumvented - there are several ways, including cloning a system, creating a custom install disc or drive, installing on another Mac and transferring the HD, or using XPostFacto to install without actually installing XPF software on the newly installed system.
The very early versions of the Leopard 10.5 Developer Previews included G3 support. This support was dropped at kernel build 9a303a. It's possible to install Leopard, but it would likely be unstable and have issues with a G3 CPU.
Older PCI PowerMacs can run Leopard 10.5 with some modifications and XPF if they have a G4 CPU installed: <http://web.archive.org/web/20100204021840/http://www.macmod.com/software-mods/mac-os/1571-leopard-on-pre-pci >
There is no 10.6, 10.7, or 10.8 for any PPC CPU (G3, G4, G5), these are INTEL ONLY, or AMD with modified legacy kernel.
I'd stick with 10.4.11 on all colored iMacs & iBooks. -- You received this message because you are a member of G-Books, a group for those using G3 iBooks and PowerBooks (we run a separate list for G4 'Books).
