I'm having what seems to be a power problem with my 15-inch 1.5GHz PowerBook G4 (A1106) running OS 10.5.8. I put it to sleep on Saturday after running it off battery power for awhile; I'm guessing about 20% or so of the battery's charge was left, but that's just a guess. It sat all day Sunday. This morning (Monday) it wouldn't wake up. Flipping it over, I saw that the battery appeared to be dead, with just one flashing LED. The PowerBook would not wake up even after the power adapter was plugged in.
I unplugged it and removed the battery, thinking that might resolve the machine's confusion, but then it didn't do anything after I replaced the battery and plugged it in. Resetting the PMU did nothing. I read somewhere that it wouldn't boot until the battery had at least a 10% charge, so I thought maybe I just needed to wait. But after a couple of hours, the single flashing LED indicated that no charging was happening. Then, a couple hours later, all the LEDs were lit, and the computer fired right up and showed a fully charged battery. However, both coconutBattery and SlimBatteryMonitor say that the battery is not charging and that the power adapter is disconnected, even though it's plugged in. The computer seems to run fine off the battery. Repeatedly resetting the PMU has made no difference. Both the battery and the power adapter are aftermarket and fairly new. The power adapter is 65W and works fine with another PowerBook. It also fits pretty tightly into the problem computer's socket, and doesn't wiggle. I'm starting to suspect that the DC-in board is the culprit, but what do you folks think? -Peter -- -- You received this message because you are a member of G-Books, a group for those using G3 iBooks and PowerBooks (we run a separate list for G4 'Books).
