Thanks for the tips, but i do not think the fan is the issue. One odd way 
to silence the iBook is, using Mac OS 9, pausing the mouse on the "control 
panels" item in the apple menu ... 
Yesterday I used the iBook with Jaguar and the CPU meter on and the noise 
(or the type of noise) is quite linked to the CPU load: it is definitely a 
switching circuitry working out the the specified frequency very likely due 
to a bad capacitor, Problem is, I do not know which one and also and 
finding the right replacement might be complicated (in a laptop, sizes 
matter).
