Try this, Pacifist: http://www.versiontracker.com/moreinfo.fcgi?id=12743&db=mac
This allows you to extract individual files out of .pkg installer 
packages. Pacifist is also able to optimize your system's performance 
by updating prebinding information on your hard disk.

You would need to hunt down the printer description file you wanted, 
the particular ppd(s) by name. Just hunt through the OS X CD or 
update file you have using Pacifist. It works nice, I used it to 
manually re-install a few things myself and it always worked 
perfectly.

Also, there have been several printer updates (mostly for inkjets I 
beleive) but you'd probably want tostart with those updates instead 
of going back to the original OS X install disk. That is, work 
backwords in time, starting with the most recent printer update, then 
the next most recent, etc.
