Here's a solution that will kill two birds at once. Chris Breen, who write the Macworld "Mac 911" column also has Quicktime video clips providing tips. In December he outlined the process for creating an emergency boot CD. His stated purpose was to create your own CD, with a clean system, whereby you could then add your favorite system utilities -- so that you can have the ultimate in troubleshooting CDs -- all in one. You can follow this same procedure and either include any system utilities you may have, or not, but just make certain that you include File Sharing in the System Folder on the CD you create. If you do not have a burner, borrow one, or go to a friend and use one -- you'll need it just once to create this CD (actually, I'd recommend you just get one, but that's up to you). Because I don't want to violate any copyrights, I will not describe word for word what the procedure was, but here's the web link to the video: <http://www.macworld.com/2001/12/movie/promo.html>.
After you create this CD, boot your Pismo from this CD. Then you can make the complete backup of your working System Folder to the Cube as you originally intended. I connected my Powerbook to my Cube via a crossover cable and began to copy the System Folder to the Cube. After a few files were transferred, I began to get messages that this extension and that extension could not be copied because they were "in use". Anyone think how I could make a complete backup of my Pismo System Folder, complete with all the extensions? Thanks. >> -- G-Books is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
