I erased mine using Disk Utility under X and reformatted as HFS+ volume (only one partition). No problem doing it. I've been using it as a disk for rendering video and have had no problems. I just copied 100megs from my documents folder to test it for you and got no error. Don't know what to say other than that. What kind of "representative function test" are you looking for?
