True, but nevertheless the warranty has to be honored, as it's a 
statutory obligation in most jurisdictions where they have declared a 
warranty period . It's not the consumer's problem if the company no 
longer makes the product. The most likely failure is the HD - which IBM 
would have to compensate them for and which can be easily replaced.

Apart from which, smaller companies hate bad press - and Mac people can 
complain long and loud like hell when they get shafted. Even Steve put a 
56K modem into the iMac and lowered the price of OS X Server when people 
screamed loudly enough about it. Windoze users - no such single entity to 
vent their spleen at (except M$). And even then they just go out and buy 
another beige box regardless.

I also suspect the IBM warranty on the drive is three years, provided you 
didn't tell them it was an OEM unit. They have been known to guarantee 
Apple-OEM drives outside the std 12 month period.
