True, but nevertheless the warranty has to be honored, as it's a statutory obligation in most jurisdictions where they have declared a warranty period . It's not the consumer's problem if the company no longer makes the product. The most likely failure is the HD - which IBM would have to compensate them for and which can be easily replaced.
Apart from which, smaller companies hate bad press - and Mac people can complain long and loud like hell when they get shafted. Even Steve put a 56K modem into the iMac and lowered the price of OS X Server when people screamed loudly enough about it. Windoze users - no such single entity to vent their spleen at (except M$). And even then they just go out and buy another beige box regardless. I also suspect the IBM warranty on the drive is three years, provided you didn't tell them it was an OEM unit. They have been known to guarantee Apple-OEM drives outside the std 12 month period. cheers, RD Remy Davison Contributing Editor and News Editor, Insanely-Great Mac <http://www.insanely-great.com> mail: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> RD's PowerBook page: <http://www.macpowerbook.com> -- G-Books is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
