I've heard this before but am not sure I understand the reasoning.
Is it a question of whether the media will survive or is it the
assumption that future software won't be able to read JPG?
Should I also be worried about all the stuff I've got in ASCII text?

If I got a for real print (not ink-jet) how would that change the
question?

Personally I like having multiple copies of my photo collection floating
around on different computers, back-up CDs and CD's sent to relatives.
I'm much more worried about losing the one negative in the shoebox.
