In my case, it was last August, and my 5300 (which had served me well for three years) gave up the ghost. What tipped the scales for me as I agonized between a used Pismo 400 and an iBook was the fact that like my old 5300, the Pismo gave me an extended desktop to my 17" monitor at home, which is how I use the machine 80% of the time. The iBooks (at least at the time) were mirroring only. (Is this still the case, by the way?) Ever since getting a RasterOps color card for my SE/30, I've enjoyed being able to spread out my work across two screens, and other pluses and minuses working out roughly equal for me, this was definitely a deciding factor in my case.
