Dear listreaders, I just wanted to report in that I also took advantage of the MacZone sale on the zip100 and 250 expansion bay drives. They arrived quickly and while the 250 works perfectly, the 100 was dead on arrival. For what it's worth, a quick phone call to MacZone was politely received and they're sending a replacement out immediately at no charge, asking me to throw the dead one away.
I will comment here that a couple years ago I had a zip100 module for my Powerbook 1400 die on me, and I found that replacement mechanisms were very expensive. However, by buying 3rd party notebook zip module on ebay (for some windows type of laptop) and simply swapping in the mechanism, I was able to restore functionality to my VST Zip module for the 1400. The notebook mechanism is a "NB" model, not ATAPI or SCSI or IDE, so finding replacement parts can be tricky. This MacZone sale might be a good time to buy a potential replacement mechanism for any notebook module, since getting the NB mechanism is not always easy, and they DO die from time to time. --Jim. -- G-Books is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
