Everything will be obsolete eventually..... but things that become obsolete too soon are often done without by the general public because.... who's to say that the new version won't be obsolete just as soon? Considering the not inconsiderable cost of going wireless, forward and backward compatibility and rate of obsolescence is a very important consideration. After we spent thousands of $$'s setting up an active roaming, secure VPN, 99% coverage wireless network in my office..... and knowing lots of others who have done similar jobs.... chucking everything in lieu of some up and coming, obsolescence of everything technology, it's a safer bet for us to stick with something that offers better compatibility. 802.11g offers a better solution than even 802.11a/b combo access points. Why? We could integrate them into our network slowly, expanding as necessary, and everyone will still have 99% coverage, even the people who are buying 802.11g cards (which can access the base stations in areas only serviced by 'b' stations).
