Hi there, looking some help with an intermittent display problem on my 2000 Pismo - 400/20/384, OS9.1
Occasionally when I start it up after a shut down the display doesn't light up as expected - it gradually becomes brighter, and there is a ghost of whatever was on the screen when it was shut down. The display doesn't become uniformly bright, but can have completely dark patches, completely, white patches, lines and, as I said, this faint ghost image. In the past turning it off for half an hour then rebooting has cured the problem, but today it simply refused to get any better until I had gone so far as dismantling the display casing. Here's what I did try: 1. Resetting the power manager 2. Removing the heatshield cover from the processor and reseating the display cable (when I removed the cable with the machine on I got a completely brilliant white screen, so I suspect the screen itself is not at fault) 3. Removing and reseating the processor card 4. Dismantling the display casing to see if the display cable was loose at the display end - however, I had only got halfway through this when I realised that I needed to remove the clutch cover, decided 'to hell with it', snapped the display back back onto the display, booted it on the off chance, and lo and behold it came up with a perfect screen. So I have no idea whether it was something I jogged when I took the screws out of the display and half removed the back, or whether it was just dumb luck. One final thing - this only ever seems to happen when I've had the powerbook in a backpack on my motorbike, which makes me suspect some sort of vibration is at play here. But what's vibrating? Any and all advice/experiences welcomed. Thanks Mike -- G-Books is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
