Anyway, I bought a "Crossover" ethernet cable yesterday and then spent the next three+ hours trying every setting possible to get the two computers to talk to each other all to no avail.
You didn't mention that you went to Apple Menu:Control Panels:AppleTalk and selected "Connect via:Ethernet" as this setting must also be made. To connect to the other computer you must also select Chooser under the Apple Menu, then click on the AppleShare icon. When you do this, the other computer should show up in the file server list.
