Actually, if you consult Apple's Knowledge Base articles, you will find that the slot-loading mechanisms do accept smaller-sized discs. I have personally used the (approx. 2.5-inch diameter) discs in my slot-loading iMac DV (DVD drive). Apple does specify that the discs must not be odd shaped. Circular but small is fine. I believe the article even has pictures, but it was a half year ago that I looked it all up. I recall thinking back about this when I saw some "business card size" CD-R blanks on sale, but realized that they won't work in slot-loaders because of the irregular shape. Mind you, I don't know how the new "combo" drives will work, but I bet they'll be ok too.
