Apple won't come out and tell a press magazine that, who would? But he's talking about an apple tech... Whose job is to get your machine working. I'm glad they have worked out for you, that's great. But it isn't always so, and a lot of their updates (and any manufacturer) often times have a lot of problems, or aren't the best updates in the world. There is the old adage- if the bug doesn't affect you, it doesn't mean it doesn't heavily affect someone else. Ie, an update might work fine on your portable, but cause massive problems with someone's DP machine when they use PPP. You don't even want to know how many friends I have who use OSX as a server and what 10.1.5 did to most people's sendmail... Just nailed it. If you go through the developer archives on the OSX server lists at apple you'll see what I'm talking about. > Sometimes, things go wrong. No amount of programming, regardless of the > quality of that programming, will ever stop things from going wrong on > computers. UNIX's still crash. The big deal is that they tend to be more > stable, as usually just one application will crash and when it does, it > cannot crash any other application nor can it bring the whole system down. *nods* You've got the right of it. About the only thing I would add is that while bugs can never be completely avoided, good solid development planning and good Q&A can go a long way towards making a product that sure as hell feels bug free. You can see it by downloading and using something like adium, and then a host of the other OSX chat programs. They all for the most part do the same thing, but one has just done it a lot better than the others. There are still bugs, but nothing like the others. Apple's updates over the last while just haven't been what they could be... You know? When I don't have to reboot a laptop just so I can hear sounds I'll hopefully feel differently. The big thing others should keep in mind is that OSX is still a majorly unoptimized and new product... In some ways a bastardized kluge that will take along while to get optimized and really firing on all cylinders. Michael Bryan Bell ------------------ ICQ: 16106263 Yahoo: mhbell1 No Link for you!
