The same can also be said of the typical owner of an older european
car, (Volvo, BMW, etc.). That thought just struck me, as I'm looking
into dumping my Volvo wagon for a smaller, sportier car. It's been
solid, as it's never stranded me, but it's also got issues that drive me
nuts. My iBook is the same way. While it never lets me down, OS X seems
to run like crap anymore.

I love my iBook, and I've contemplated hardware upgrades, but like
the V8 swap for the Volvo, they don't seem to be worth the trouble to
me. I have a three year Applecare on my machine, and have been told that
a hard drive upgrade would void my warranty by the Mac Genius at the
Apple store in Tampa. Though, he also said that the case hinge on the
iBooks are supposed to make a nasty creaking noise, so I'm not sure I'd
trust him.
