I've been reading the Discussions boards at Apple' site. This DVD problems appear to becoming more common, and the actually source of the problem is unknown. Some Pismo uses solved the problem with a CD/DVD drive replacement, others replaced the motherboard, some found that swapping two non-working drives worked again if swapped between machines, etc. However, there may be nothing wrong with your DVD, it may be the Prefs. The DVD preferences can become corrupted, allowing DVD's to still work, but crashing when CD's are inserted.
