It wasn't telling you that :) Here's what I got from 
www.apple.com/airport in the tech specs:

> For Macintosh users
> An Apple computer with an antenna and AirPort Card
> Mac OS 9.0.4 or later or Mac OS X v10.1 or later

You can use airport with a PC even. The administrator app you use to set 
it up only runs on Mac OSes as listed above.
