Yeah, it's the least-damaging option, and I always consider that first (then I find a replacement screw at a home depot or other hardware store). I would take the screw in and tell them you need an exact duplicate in everything but the head type (T, Hex, Phillips, Standard, etc). I have done a lot of work on powerbooks out of warranty that I have a solution for almost every problem. My powerbook 5300 (after the RMA issue was fixed) was taken apart about 30 times in the next two years. I eventually sold it off at the same price in 2002 that I paid for it in 1999. Of course, I had upgraded the display to Active Matrix, put in a ethernet/video card, second battery, new trackpad, new power adapter...
