This has happened to me occassionally. Usually if my hands get sticky from heat, but not always. Now that I think of it, I don't remember it happening in OS X. Anyway, I used to restart or put the computer to sleep, and it was generally fine after that. Why did you need to borrow a keyboard? There are USB mice that are really small that make a nice combo with a PB. I opted for the MacAlly iOpti Jr., which has a scroll wheel for pages as well as a control-click button. I love scroll wheels for anything internet related (i.e. 85% of my computing needs).
If that doesn't help (restarting, that is), I would imagine some people here know how to replace trackpads.
