To All the kind folks on this list who provided suggestions it was, in fact, the daughter card seating that was the problem. It does in fact take so much force you think you may break it, but when it seats you can "feel" it pop into place. With the new 40 GB hard drive and extra half gig of memory, it seems to be much more responsive than before. Will be getting a firewire case for the old 10 GB drive which I will use for working on videos of the grandaughter.
