Was it OK until recently and, if so, have you made any changes to the system? If so, check with the printer manufacturer in regard to compatibility.
I had the same problem with a USB SuperDisk drive when I updated to OS9 and there is nothing I can do except to disconnect and then re-connect the SuperDisk drive after the computer wakes up.
