I was having the same problem with Help Viewer, and followed all the
suggestions (delete certain plist files, run Disk Warrier/Norton, etc).
What finally worked for me was when someone suggested removing the
directory: /Library/Documentation/Help/Virex7.help

I haven't had a chance to investigate why that directory was causing a
problem, but now Help Viewer works for me.
