That's good. I really don't think that all IBM hard drives are bad, it's just that when you have to constantly dodge problematic models, it reflects poorly on the company. I'm sure IBM has some great hard drives like the one you got, but they have a bad enough track record that I probably won't buy anything by them unless I'm absolutely sure that it's good.
Anyway, since they don't make them anymore, there's no real need to worry. I'll stick with Seagate, Western Digital, Toshiba, or one of the other reputable hard drive manufacturers. BTW, I think the reason the IBM Deskstar hard drives failed so often was because they made some critical mechanism out of glass instead of metal to save cost.
