Hello,

Interesting and I'm not surprised...............

Monday, September 30, had been the deadline for free iTools account holders to switch
to .Mac for half-price ($49.95) the first year, but not any more.

According to CNET News.com, Apple has extended the deadline to October 14, 2002. After
that it will be $99 per year for everyone. While Apple referred to the 100,000 +
signups earlier this month as a "phenomenal success," the roughly 5 percent retention
rate surely stood in need of boosting and the extended deadline should urge a few more
current account holders over the line.

Comments: We signed up the other night. Nothing has changed except that we're out 50
bucks. All we ever used before was the email address, but maybe now we'll try the
other goodies. The 100MB of online storage sounds good, and $49.95 divided by 12 makes
for awfully cheap hosting fees for any Web pages we choose to put up.

That's about the size of it from our point of view, but we're not complaining. A lot
of people have expended at least 50 bucks worth of energy raising arguments we happen
to agree with, but in the end we wanted to keep the email address, being in the
business and all, and changing various subscriptions and accounts tied to our
<mac.com> address was just too much of a hassle. The big guys win this time. Hopefully
they'll keep loading on the services and make us true believers.

   Demetrius
