Are you certain that you don't already have OS 9 on the machine? Go to the 
Apple menu (upper left corner of your screen), go down to System Preferences. 
Look at the bottom line in the window (System). Look for the item "Startup 
Disk." Click on this. The operating systems that are present will show up in 
the window (may take a few moments). If OS 9 is there, you can click on it, 
then select "Restart," and the machine will boot into 9. 

If you do have OS 9 on the machine, do you need to boot into 9 or can you 
operate in Classic? If you can utilize the latter, you can just choose to 
start Classic. Then you can remain booted into OS X and use Classic for 
legacy applications when necessary.
