Well, it seems that your PRAM backup battery is dying, since you mention
that unplugging the computer resets the date. Since that battery is
rechargeable, I'm wondering if your main battery that doesn't take a charge
anymore is responsible for the backup battery not able to maintain the PRAM.
I'm not sure, however, that a non-charging battery and a discharged backup
battery would exhibit the behavior you're describing. You could try to
replace your main battery. I've read that if you have a discharged backup
battery, you can leave the PowerBook plugged for about 48 hours and the
battery will recharge itself.

Sorry I can't be more helpful...

bozotic /boh-zoh'tik/ or /boh-zo'tik/ adj.: [from the name of a TV clown
even more losing than Ronald McDonald] Resembling or having the quality of a
bozo; that is, clownish, ludicrously wrong, unintentionally humorous.
Compare wonky, demented. Note that the noun `bozo' occurs in slang, but the
mainstream adjectival form would be `bozo-like' or (in New England)
`bozoish'.
