If it's like other Jetdirects, they support Appletalk as well as LP. 
Their sales literature is surprisingly vague compared to what it used to 
be :-(

But I found their Network Administrator's guide, which indicates that 
like our older JD models (we have dozens of them) the 300X supports 
Appletalk, it looks like.

Out of the box, (if it's like our older models) Appletalk is on.

Now, the question is: do your *printer drivers* support Appletalk 
printing? The 4550 only lists a serial driver, the 4000 doesn't list a 
Mac driver at all. I don't think this will work with your printers.

All of our printers (that Mac folks are using, anyway) are Postscript 
printers, and laserwriter drivers support both Appletalk and LPD 
printers. Under these conditions the Macs work well.
