If it's like other Jetdirects, they support Appletalk as well as LP. Their sales literature is surprisingly vague compared to what it used to be :-( But I found their Network Administrator's guide, which indicates that like our older JD models (we have dozens of them) the 300X supports Appletalk, it looks like. <http://h200002.www2.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/bpj06200/bpj06200.pdf> Out of the box, (if it's like our older models) Appletalk is on. Now, the question is: do your *printer drivers* support Appletalk printing? The 4550 only lists a serial driver, the 4000 doesn't list a Mac driver at all. I don't think this will work with your printers. All of our printers (that Mac folks are using, anyway) are Postscript printers, and laserwriter drivers support both Appletalk and LPD printers.
