Jeff, I've had the similar problem on a WS, the temporary solution is to just adjust the screen brightness using the button above the keyboard. As soon as you touch the button the screen jumps on. In researching the problem the only solution I've found is to boot into OS9 and adjust the monitor settings, when returning to OSX you are supposed to have it corrected.
