Thanks for the tip.
It worked as good as the other remedies. I strongly believe that there is no
CD in the drive. I just think that the drive died out of the blue with no
indication whatsoever. All measure that would eject a CD are completely
silent, I believe to remember that even with no CD in the drive it would
make a clicking sound....now only silence - I put my ear on the drive ...

I ship it to Apple on Monday - since I bought it less then 6 months ago its
still on warranty (and I have Apple care anyway).

The "tragic" circumstances are that I discovered the drive failure when I
tried to install the Admin Tools to remotely administer an Apple Xserve...
It set out to be a really happy weekend now I am rather pi...d. So Installed
the Jaguar server in the server room and felt like a flight deck engineer on
a carrier :-)
