BJ, Are you sure the cable you're using is a crossover? Newer Powerbooks and iBooks, I believe, are able to detect the cable type and should negotiate the connection between your wallstreets using 'straight-thru' OR crossover Ethernet cables. Without the iBook's auto-sensing the connection, you need to use a crossover cable directly between the wallstreets, or to use a hub, switch, or router. A cheap 10/100 hub would do it. The simplest way if you're just hooking up two computers directly is to use an Ethernet crossover cable. Sorry if I'm already repeating things you know here. The fact that the network works fine with the iBook inline tells me that your software settings are fine, and points to the cable as suspect. Personally, if you have more than two machines on your network on a regular basis, I'd recommend getting a router.
