Clark I used my "PC card adapter" to read smartmedia cards from my Olympus camera for several years until I got a "card error" trying to read 4th of July pictures into my 520 powerbook. None of the utilities I tried could read the card. Later I had a similar error trying to read a smart media card into my Wallstreet but this time Scandisk (on my WIN98 Thinkpad) recovered it and I was able to read the card. Shortly after that I saw a posting (on this list perhaps?) mentioning that the MAC finder might confuse the simple minded smartmedia card. After that I always copied the photos onto the IBM first then the powerbook after so that if the powerbook trashed the card I'd have the photos on the thinkpad. Then I got camera (Olympus D-100) that mounts as a hard drive on your desktop so the camera's electronics can shield the tender smartmedia card from the confusing Apple file structure. My theory is that the card is offended when the finder writes the resource fork on the unprotected smartmedia chip. -- Andrew King Ann Arbor Michigan technology is the answer, what was the question?
