Correct, my suggestion is that Smart Media is more likely to object to
having the invisible files there. I wonder if switching off PC exchange
would eliminate the invisible files? It would probably prevent you from
reading the card as well...

My dim recollection from the old posting (I wish I had saved that text)
was that something in the MAC file system was confusing the smart media
file system.
I figured it had to be the hidden files, what other change would reading
the card in a MAC make to the card?

All I know is the card worked in the camera and in the PC notebook, I
tried reading it in the 520 powerbook and got a card error. After trying
to read the card in the MAC I was unable to read the card in the camera
or in the PC.
This has only happened to me twice over the last 5 or 6 years but it's
scary enough so that I no longer read the smart media card in the PC
card slot on the Wallstreet.
I believe a compact flash card would not have this problem since it has
it's own on-board electronics.
