You can, but I'd try other stuff first such as DFA, zapping the PRAM 
and rebuilding the desktop. Also, try turning off VM. Running OS9 you 
should have ample RAM and you'll do better on battery with it off. I 
had 192 MB on mine for the longest time and never used VM.

Have you made any changes such as installing new apps/Extensions that 
preceded these problems?
