In my limited use, I've been very happy with the Dazzle Hollywood Bridge. I used it to convert a VHS tape to DV, edited it down with iMovie2, and then output to an MPEG and also back out to VHS.
Simple to use and quality on the edited VHS was as good as the original. Just my personal experience.
