Any slim form factor 2.5" drive should work fine. I put a 20gig in my Pismo last year. Personally, I recommend Travelstars, I have found them to be very quiet and highly reliable.
As for the installation, it's not too difficult, and when I did it, there were numerous sites with how-to instructions. Doing this does invalidate your Applecare, if it is still covered. You'll need a torx screwdriver set, I don't remember which size. Sorry.
