OK g, I understand the basic concept of not using magnetic tools around very sensitive electronic equipment, but I'll challenge the idea that a PowerBook HD might be affected by the residual magnetism in a screwdriver tip. While I'm not an expert I do know the drives platter's share their case with some extremely powerful magnets directly adjacent. I've dismantled a number of the cute little things, the voice-coil magnets are amazingly strong (and make super-fridge-mags BTW.) Not to mention (oh dear, I am mentioning!) all those crazy electrons swirling about inside a laptop's innards, surely of greater significance than a magnetic screwdriver tip? Does anyone out there have any more specific explanation for this practice? Not to dismiss g's suggestion, in fact quite the contrary as I'd very much like to know if there's some vital bit of understanding I lack. Frankly I think one's careless fingers pose more of a danger to a portable's HD, one slightly excessive squeeze of the cover and the drive is toast. Well it'd still be good to disembowl for the magnets! > I have found forceps work pretty good at getting at that last > screw that always seems to fall in that ##** place. Oh I have those as well, plus more tools are made on an as-needed basis, bloody hard not to drop bits down the well when one visits so frequently!
