I would state that this software is a wee bit better than just emptying your Trash before disposing/selling an old drive. Instead of deleting the reference to the file this piece of software most likely overwrites the file with data. Random would be best. This is, however, something you can do yourself from the OS X terminal if you are really interested in drive security.
